When a card payment is pending
What a pending payment means
When you make a card payment, we set the money aside so you can’t spend it while the payment is pending. It stays pending until the merchant collects the money and completes the payment.
Merchants usually collect payments within a few days, but if they don’t, we’ll return the money to your account automatically. This usually happens within 8 days, although hotel bookings, car hire and some other payments can take up to 31 days.
If the payment has been pending for 7 days or more
You can ask us to review the payment by raising a dispute in the app by following these steps:
Tap Home, then choose the payment from your activity feed.
Scroll down and tap Something wrong? Get help.
Under Help me get this money back, tap Get help.
If the payment has been pending for less than 7 days
We can only consider returning the money early if:
you need the money urgently because you’re in a vulnerable financial situation
you can show that the merchant won’t collect the payment. For example, the merchant has confirmed a duplicate payment, or a hotel has released a deposit because you paid another way.
